How to preach to my non-believing relatives

This is a question asked by many believers, since although it sounds somewhat easy, sometimes it is not as easy as preaching to strangers in the streets. Well, it is about our family, and we want to do it in a sane and responsible, and also intelligent way, explaining to them the Gospel of Christ, without compromising either side.

We must understand that preaching to non-believers or our relatives is not to go through the Bible taking all kinds of stories and verses to show them the existence of God, but there are key stories and verses to show them why we should serve the only God true.

God is the creator of the universe

The first thing is to explain to them that the world was created by God and not that it came out of nowhere as some claim. All of us have been taught in schools (when they are not Christian) that the world was created from an explosion, that is, they teach us the method dictated by science, but they do not tell us that this world was created by God.

That is why we must teach them with the Bible that this world was created by a supreme being called God:

1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Genesis 1:1-2

Questions may arise from your relatives with these verses, such as: How do I verify that what is there is true? Well, we can ask you: How do we prove that what we were taught is also true? And if we go to logic, how can living beings come out of an explosion? Or rather, how can anything come out of nowhere? Nothing is nothing, so nothing can come out. So, there must be an architect and creator of all things, and that is called God.

We were enemies of God and He saved us through Christ

God created man, but man separated himself from the ways of God and left after the wickedness of his heart. We can explain this to you since Adam and Eve sinned and how after them all the following humanity became corrupted and wished for more evil than good, since in that part of Genesis the nature of sin begins in man.

And here also begins the plan of salvation for us, and this plan of salvation can be explained with a famous quote from the letter to the Romans:

23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.

28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

Romans 3:23-28

These verses explain how all men had sinned, and teach us how corrupt we are from the beginning and that we were all enemies of God, apart from His glory. But verse 24 shows us light and salvation through the death of Christ on the cross, justifying ourselves freely by His grace, and in the eternal Son we have redemption and friendship again with God.

In short, we were guilty, but that condemnation was taken from us by the death of the only begotten Son of God on the cross and gave us salvation that we did not deserve.

God loves you like nobody loves you

There are people who say: “There is no such love as that of a mother.” Well no, this phrase makes no sense. And therefore you can teach your relatives that there is a love greater than that of mother, father, etc., and that love is the love of God, which is unsurpassed, because he gave His own Son to death on a cross to save us:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3:16

And we can use these points and verses from the Bible to talk about God to our family. Now, from then on, just hope that the Holy Spirit convinces them of sin and we, apart from teaching them also, always pray for them so that God will do a powerful work of salvation in their lives through Christ Jesus.
