Following Jesus is the greatest challenge of our lives because being a Christian requires us to deny many things for the love of Christ. The Lord Himself said, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” This means walking in Christ, being like Him, and living a life apart from sin.
The apostle Paul wrote:
6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
Colossians 2:6-7
One truth that we must always carry with us is that Christ is the center of everything. He is the cornerstone and must mean everything to us. If we remove Him from our lives, we can no longer call ourselves Christians, as Christ is the one who gives meaning to this movement that nothing has been able to stop.
The apostle Paul also teaches us to focus on the goal of the sovereign calling in Christ Jesus.
Beloved brethren, we are called to proclaim Christ and the truths of the gospel, teaching people that there is no other way to reach the Father except through Christ. He is the only means of salvation, having given His precious blood for us on the cross of Calvary to give us life.
So, if we have received Him, shouldn’t we walk like Him? Paul also said, “Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ” (1 Corinthians 11:1). Christ is our example, our best example, as He was faultless and loved us with a love that surpasses all other love.
Beloved brothers, let us live for Christ and walk in Him as the children of light that we are.
